The Challenge

LEONI recognised the need to equip their emerging managers and leaders with the essential human and business skills required to thrive in a highly technical and fast-paced environment

With a focus on building stronger relationships with team members and stakeholders, the programme needed to help these leaders raise their self-awareness, enhance their emotional intelligence, and align their leadership approach with the company’s core values.

As a leading STEM organisation, LEONI faced several key challenges:

  • Developing leadership skills in an evolving technical landscape.
  • Equipping managers with the ability to drive team performance while fostering collaboration.
  • Ensuring that new leadership behaviours were embedded in day-to-day work.

The Solution

In response to these challenges, Ashorne Advantage designed and delivered a bespoke Emerging Leaders Programme, tailored to the specific needs of LEONI’s leaders.

This programme was structured around key human skills, including emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and social influence, all essential for effective leadership in STEM organisations.

The programme’s design was focused on learner impact and knowledge transfer, ensuring that participants could immediately apply what they learned to their day-to-day roles. It utilised a blend of virtual classrooms, face-to-face sessions, and action learning sets (small- group coaching and mentoring sessions) to keep learners fully engaged and encourage the application of learning.

The Programme

Onboarding Webinar: Leaders and managers were introduced to the programme and given an overview of the content, ensuring they were prepared for the learning journey. The participation of their managers helped increase receptivity and support for new skills.

Two Key Learning Journeys:

  • Self-Understanding and Social Understanding to Drive Performance.
  • Leading for Improved Performance.

These journeys combined psychological and experiential learning, allowing participants to engage with the content in an interactive and practical manner.

Action Learning Sets: These took place a month after the experiential sessions and provided opportunities for small groups to workshop real-life scenarios, ensuring that learning was transferred back to the workplace.

Ongoing Support and Reflection: Participants were encouraged to set future goals and objectives, with progress shared with HR to ensure continued development and alignment with LEONI’s business goals.
