Ashorne Hill Goes Landfill-Free, Cutting CO₂e Emissions by 50 Tonnes

Ashorne Hill has taken a bold step toward environmental leadership by completely eliminating waste to landfill across its operations. Through a combination of rigorous recycling and energy recovery initiatives, the college has ensured that 100% of its waste is diverted from landfill, marking a major milestone in its sustainability journey.

This achievement has led to a reduction of 50 tonnes of CO₂e emissionsrepresenting an 8% decrease in total emissions from 2023/2024 to 2024/2025It’s a tangible demonstration of how targeted waste management can deliver measurable climate benefits.

Turning Waste into Impact

Rather than sending waste to landfill, Ashorne Hill now ensures that all materials are either:

  • Recycled into new products, reducing demand for virgin resources
  • Converted into energy, helping offset fossil fuel use and supporting circular economy principles

This approach not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also minimises environmental degradation, supports resource efficiency, and contributes to a cleaner, more resilient local ecosystem

A Culture of Environmental Stewardship

Ashorne Hill’s landfill-free success is part of a broader commitment to environmental responsibility. We actively monitor and manage our emissions across all scopes, embedding sustainability into daily operations and our long-term strategy.

“We see environmental stewardship not as a checkbox, but as a core value,” said Mark Soule for Ashorne Hill. “Eliminating landfill waste is just one example of how we’re taking ownership of our impact and driving meaningful change.

Why It Matters

The benefits of going landfill-free extend beyond carbon savings:

  • Improved operational efficiency through smarter waste segregation
  • Enhanced brand reputation among clients and partners seeking sustainable venues
  • Compliance readiness for evolving environmental regulations
  • Positive contribution to national and global Net Zero goals
