Josh has been working at Ashorne Hill for six years now. Find out how Ashorne Hill has helped Josh grow and progress his career in hospitality.

Your name: Josh Tucker

Your job title: Front of House Operations Manager

How long have you worked at Ashorne Hill for?
6 years and I look forward to many more.

You’ve progressed through a number of roles during your time at Ashorne Hill. Can you tell us where you started and how you got to your current role?
Yes! I have progressed in a variety of different roles during my time at Ashorne Hill, from day one I was keen to improve upon and gain further knowledge.

I started at Ashorne Hill back in September 2016 as a Duty Manager after moving here after a seven-year career as a chef.

After gaining all the knowledge I could from my time with the Front of House department the opportunity arose for a new Assistant Food and Beverage Manager. Given this opportunity to progress further as well as using my previous catering experience I applied for the role.

When we returned from the pandemic the opportunity arose for a new Front of House Operations Manager, and I was encouraged to apply for this role back in November 2020.

The knowledge I have gained whilst at Ashorne Hill covers a wide range of operational departments. On top of the support and encouragement I have received during my time here has allowed me to grow as an individual.

What are the priorities in your current role?
As a key member of the Management Team within conference operations my priority in my current role is to ensure all guests that visit Ashorne Hill have a lasting memory of us as a leader in the events and learning sector. In addition to maintaining excellent standards of facilities whist promoting an “Above & Beyond Customer First” approach to the customer and their journey through Ashorne Hill.

You must have some great memories; can you tell us of some of your most memorable achievements?
My greatest achievement to date has been the planning and organising of the Tipi on the croquet lawn, for a ten-week long event – previously something Ashorne Hill has never done before.

Ashorne Hill’s mission is to create growth through people, can you explain how your career was allowed to grow at Ashorne Hill?
One way Ashorne Hill has allowed me to grow my career is by offering me the freedom to express my ideas and the autonomy to implement changes where necessary. But more so the mentoring, support and encouragement from my talented colleagues.

In your opinion what makes Ashorne Hill such a great place to work at?
Ashorne Hill genuinely is a great place to work, the support and encouragement you receive to succeed is unlike anywhere else.

Ashorne Hill are currently recruiting a number of roles across the business. For job hunters out there what advise can you offer then when applying?
Hospitality is a rewarding industry no matter whether you’re looking to progress in your current career or start a new career.

The training and development opportunities available at Ashorne Hill really makes this a great place to be part of.

How do you see yourself developing next at Ashorne Hill? What are your future career goals?
In my short time at Ashorne Hill, I have developed my career beyond what I imagined I would when I started six years ago. My goal for the future is for my career to continue with the trajectory that I am currently on and I am excited for what the future looks like at Ashorne Hill in the years to come.
