What is a REGO?
REGO stands for Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin. Think of it as a ‘receipt’ that proves a certain amount of electricity was made from renewable sources like wind, solar, or water (hydro).
Here’s how it works:
- When a renewable energy company produces electricity, it gets a certificate (a REGO) for every unit it generates.
- Our electricity supplier, Total Energies, buys these certificates and matches them to the amount of electricity we use at Ashorne Hill.
- The certificates are then ‘retired” (used up), which means no one else can claim them.
This process ensures that the electricity we’ve used has been matched with renewable generation, allowing us to confidently say we’re running on 100% clean electricity.
