Understanding a Work-Life Balance
A work-life balance requires individuals and organisations to recognise the importance of keeping both work and home life separate. Since the pandemic, the foundations of a work-life balance have shifted with the rise of remote and hybrid working. This however poses a problem for employees developing digital fatigue and struggling to switch off. As Ioana Lupu suggests in a BBC report, ‘the internet, email and eventually smartphones found their way into the workplace [and] changed not only the way workers got their jobs done but also the shape and span of the workday.’[2] Accessing work is easier than ever due to evolution of technology; however, this gives employees the temptation to bring work home rather than leaving it at the end of the working day.
